In an interview with CNN’s Brianna Keilar, radio host Hugh Hewitt denied that he asked Donald Trump “gotcha questions,” saying he actually hated gotcha questions.
“I asked him about gotcha questions because I hate them,” Hewitt said. “And in the course of the interview which actually went 20 minutes, Donald Trump did very well throughout most of that interview, including tricky questions about China and Israel…”
“But to come back with ‘third-rate announcer,’ that’s my Trump tattoo. You know, you earn that in this business,” he said. “And I’m always interested in critiques, I take them under advisement.”
“I don’t think it’s a gotcha question to ask about the forces surrounding Israel, and that’s where the interview was going and eventually got to,” he continued. Hewitt pointed out that Quds Force General Qadem Suliamani actually came up in the first Republican debate, making the question clearly fair game.
“So I’m not trying to catch anyone out on the names,” Hewitt said. “I get confused on the names. Carly Fiorina came on and said she got confused on the names.”
